Week 1: St. Luke the Evangelist
Goal: After participating in the lesson, tell me about Saint Luke and when is his feast day?
Notes for the Teacher: This lesson sets the groundwork for a year long study of iconography in relation to Christ’s life. It is important for us to have a strong understanding ourselves of how to read icons, before attempting to teach our children.
You can only teach that which you have made your own, and this means there is always the danger that your personal mistaken judgement of insufficient knowledge will be reflected in your teaching. – Sophie Koulomzin, “Our Church and Our Children”
Additionally, you can take photos of your parish’s iconostasis and learn about each of the icons. This can be used later in the year with your students or sent to parents as a home activity.
PreK - 2nd Grade Routine
Our teachers cannot always get to the classrooms before our students. In an effort to help guide our children with what they can do while they are waiting for their teachers, we developed a routine for them to do as they enter the classroom.
"Lord, have mercy"
Our youngest classes are learning to sing, “Lord, have mercy” in multiple languages.
Getting to Know You Worksheet
As part of our first class, we wanted to get to know all of our students, but especially our new children. We also wanted the children to get to know each other as well.
