Our vacation church school theme this summer is – We are the Body of Christ! How can we offer our gifts, talents, and resources for the glory of God through our parish’s ministries?\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>This is a continuation of our study of the Gospel of John this past year.<\/p>\n Goal:<\/strong>\u00a0As we planned our VCS week, we wanted to give our kids some exposure to a variety of different ministries offered at our parish. (Ministries and how they are named will vary from parish to parish.) We are all part of the Body of Christ and we offer our gifts, talents, and resources in different capacities – some serve on the altar, some lead us in singing, some prep the church for the services in a variety of ways (cleaning, paying the electric bill, etc), others offer prosphora, wine, artos, or kollyva, and we all participate within the Divine Liturgy as we seek intercessions and praise God.<\/p>\n Prep:<\/strong>\u00a01) We have invited one or more people from each ministry to attend VCS for one hour during the week (30 minutes for older kids and 30 minutes for younger kids). 2) We have asked them to give a brief explanation about what they do in their ministry and 3) then lead the kids in a hands-on activity relating to their ministry.<\/p>\n Unfortunately, we cannot cover every ministry at our parish during our VCS week, but we did our best to include as many as possible.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.4.8″ column_structure=”2_3,1_3″ hover_enabled=”0″][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.4.8″ type=”2_3″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.4.8″ hover_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n Ministries being covered during our week of Vacation Church School:<\/strong><\/p>\n Music Ministry<\/strong> – Koinonia Ministry<\/strong> (Fellowship Hour, Luncheons) – Parish Council<\/strong> – Ecclesiastical Ministry<\/strong> (Prosphora Baking & Cleaning the Church) – Philoptochos<\/strong> (Assists those in need) – Youth Ministries<\/strong> (GOYA) – Food Festival<\/strong> – Ageless Wonders Ministry<\/strong> (Our seniors group) – Religious Education Ministry<\/strong> – [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.4.8″ type=”1_3″][et_pb_image src=”http:\/\/illumination-learning.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/IMG_0090.jpg” _builder_version=”4.4.8″ title_text=”IMG_0090″ hover_enabled=”0″][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.4.8″ hover_enabled=”0″][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.4.8″ type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.4.8″ hover_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n Project – Ministries Book Activity:<\/strong> Our kids will also create a binder that will be shared with our community during fellowship hour for a few Sundays after VCS.<\/p>\n The binder will contain:<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.4.8″][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.4.8″ hover_enabled=”0″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.4.8″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.4.8″ hover_enabled=”0″] Our vacation church school theme this summer is – We are the Body of Christ! Activity:<\/em> Voting on something relating to caring for our parish and learning what the ushers do on Sundays<\/p>\n
Activity 1:<\/em> Learn how prosphora is made
Activity 2:\u00a0<\/em>Help clean the narthex (little kids) and nave (big kids)<\/p>\n
Activity 1: Make sandwiches for lunch (Our Philoptochos chapter makes sandwhiches for a local homeless shelter once a month.)
Activity 2: Learn how to twist koulouria (Our Philoptochos chapter sells baked goods several times a year to raise funds for those they assist.)<\/p>\n
Activity: Basketball<\/p>\n
Activity: Help to make some Greek food for lunch (with the Ageless Wonders Ministry on Thursday).<\/p>\n
Activity: We invited them to have lunch with us on Thursday. Our kids will have a short skit for them – sharing highlights from what they learned about each of the ministries. Then they will have have lunch together.<\/p>\n
